Barbara's niece Emily got this posted on her Facebook page:hey Emily! Just wanted to let you know that I bought my boyfriends's mom your aunt's book and she LOVED it and can't wait until the next one comes out! She read it one night!!!!!

I just wanted to let you know that I finished "Gifts and Bones" this morning and am impatiently waiting for the next Bea and Mildred mystery. I loved every minute of precious reading time. What a great book, captivating characters, wonderful setting... Susanne M.

I loved Barbara Murray's first novel, 'Gifts and Bones'. It is an intriguing cross between a literary and mystery novel set in Newfoundland in the early 1900's. Its rich characters and fantastic plot twists are in the league of Anne Marie MacDonald. There is historical interest with the first transatlantic cable and an otherworldly sense throughout the story.I'm looking forward to more adventures of Bea and Mildred in the years to come. Loved your book! I bought myself a copy of gifts and bones for christmas and have just finished it ... the story is fantastic, the premise is really fun, the writing is wonderful and I really really liked it - kept me up way too late on a couple of occasions. JG

... I have read more than 2,000 mysteries and I can’t say there’s one Gifts and Bones reminds me of – it’s that unusual. Barbara Murray is very adept at creating a sense of place – and a dark place it is, with grey weather, more than one scary and secretive character and a sense of foreboding that never goes away (until the end, of course). Add to the mix a paranormal element that unfolds gradually over the course of the story and that makes Gifts and Bones an engrossing read. ... Diana Vickery, Cozy Mystery

It’s Sarah from the Coles Bookstore in Bentall.  I wanted to let you know that I just finished your book, and it had me hooked, right to the end!  I’ve spent the last week daydreaming about Bea, Jean and Mildred and I’m sad it’s over!  Bravo!  Well done indeed!  What a fabulous read!  Sarah T.

 Loved your book!!  Eli A.

Barbara Murray has added a dose of the paranormal to the mixture of period detail and psychological sleuthing, the result is a refreshing deviation from the usual “Private eye solves grizzly murder” publications that flood the mystery market. The thoroughly intriguing, many-layered plot keeps the reader hooked, and the generous cast of villains of all shades makes it a thrilling read until the very end.  Bowen Island Undercurrent

Barbara has done an excellent job of research on the cable technology and terminology from the 1850s... All the details of the cable construction, manufacturing, and laying are described as they would have been. ... Bill Burns, atlantic-cable.com

Gifts and Bones is an entertaining and suspenseful page-turner that will keep you guessing to the very last page. From Emma McKay at Mudscout Media

...I don't often find that a fact in a mystery story surprises me, unless it comes out of left field and has not been set up for us to see; I usually figure it out early on. But this one shocked me, even though after I read it I could see it was perfectly supported beforehand. Very clever! And it really makes me want to continue with the series. M.
